| Please take a look at the collection of frequently asked questions. Hopefully most of your questions regarding how to obtain, configure, and use DESL are addressed. |
If the DESL documentation is desired to reside locally then the
makesys.exe utility should be run in the doc
subdirectory to expand the shddoc file into numerous other
HTML and graphics files.
There are numerous reasons for desiring to have the DESL documentation
at the local level. The speed of the
web page loading is increased
if the DESL web pages exist on a local machine. Security
may be the reason for needing to have the documentation locally. Perhaps
the DESL host is isolated from the outside world.
The disadvantage
of having the web pages on the local machine is that it will not
reflect the latest changes which may be present in the
ViGYAN-maintained web pages. The local web pages can, however, be
downloaded as often as necessary,
if the unrestricted version of DESL was downloaded - i.e., you have
a subscription to DESL.
There are features of the DESL documentation and its production
which inform the user of dated section changes which have occurred after
the documentation base date release as well as features
allowing notes from
up to 10 user notebooks to be inserted into the DESL web
pages as they are produced. The latter capability only
exists when the unrestricted version of DESL has been
downloaded and used. Please review the pertinent
section of the DESL documentation for a complete discussion
of user notes.
All of the DESL documentation is contained in HTML web pages. These
web pages are maintained remotely on the ViGYAN web server and are
continuously updated in a downloadable amalgamation
of packed web pages and the accompanying makesys utility to unpack
this file into a set of web pages on the local machine.
As the DESL documentation is updated dates will be entered in the
pertinent web pages in red (more words needed here) to reflect the changes
which have occurred since the last documentation base date.
Occasionally the documentation will be completely refreshed wherein the
dates will disappear - i.e., a new base documentation date will
be established and any incremental changes from that point on will reference
the new base date.
Throughout all of the DESL documentation web pages there are many
locations where user notes reference points
exist. At any or all of these locations, when the DESL documentation
has been downloaded to the local computer, the user need only download
a late edition of the documentation then rerun the makesys utility
pointing it to up to notes files to tie the existing set of user
notes to the new set of documentation. This capability provides the DESL
user with a way of maintaining a set of notes which is meaningful to
their situation in the context of the current DESL documentation.
(
All of the DESL documentation is contained on both
remotely maintained individual web pages and as part of the
downloadable version of DESL.
Further, the DESL documentation file
shddoc which exists in the doc subdirectory, can
expanded and customized to reflect one or more
DESL user notebooks.
