Flight Simulation

ViGYAN has real-time pilot-in-the-loop simulation experience in the following specific areas:

Aerodynamic Model Development

ViGYAN has experience developing simulation aerodynamic models for real-time pilot in the loop simulations. This experience includes developing entire configuration aerodynamic models as well as modifying existing aerodynamic models to add experimental control surfaces or improve simulation to flight comparisons. Our experience includes the use of static, forced oscillation, rotary balance, and some unsteady aerodynamic data.

Control System Design and Implementation and Handling Qualities

ViGYAN has experience in flight control system design and implementation. Our work here has included developing design guidelines for control systems in new flight regimes, specifically high angle of attack maneuvers for close in air combat. ViGYAN developed a set of maneuvers and the associated criteria necessary to obtain Cooper-Harper ratings during simulation and flight evaluations. These were used extensively for development of a series of control systems for the F-18 High Alpha Research Vehicle (HARV).

We also have experience implementing control systems by "hand coding" and the use of the auto-code generators in both Matlab/Simulink and Matrix-x/SystemBuild.

We also have experience evaluating handling qualities differences between fixed and motion base simulators and flight tests. This work involved developing a simulation evaluation technique that could help identify potential pilot-in-the-loop oscillations in a fixed based simulator.

Air Combat Simulation Evaluations

ViGYAN has experience developing a simulation environment for air combat simulations including real-time pilot-in-the-loop one vs. one and one vs. two simulations. We also conducted extensive work evaluating the possibilities offered by Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles (UCAV) for close-in air combat. These simulations included high-fidelity radar and weapon systems. Each of these simulation studies were developed and run with the intent of developing agility and handling qualities guidelines for aircraft design.
