Technical Support

ViGYAN is experienced in all aspects of wind tunnel testing support. We operate our own low speed facility near our Hampton, Virginia offices and support a number of facilities at the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). We offer services in the following wind tunnel areas:

Wind Tunnel Test Engineering Support

ViGYAN staff provides test engineering support for our own wind tunnel as well as LaRC facilities including the NTF, 16-Foot, 14x22, 30x60, LaRC 12-Foot, Unitary Plan Wind Tunnel, and BART tunnels. We have also done testing in various commercial facilities as well as the NASA Ames NFAC and 12-Foot Pressure Wind Tunnel. We can also supply tunnel operators, research engineers, instrumentation engineers and technicians, control systems engineers, and data system engineers for customer tests. ViGYAN offers turn-key testing services including model design, fabrication, test planning, test conduct, flow visualization, data acquisition and reduction, and data analysis. We can support efforts in most areas from basic force and moment tests to survey tests, powered models, forced oscillation, and full scale testing.

The use of ViGYAN test engineering support benefits LaRC customers because of our familiarity with the facilities as well as reduced travel costs due to not being required to transport a testing staff on site at LaRC.

Wind Tunnel Design

ViGYAN staff designed and built our low speed wind tunnel. We have also designed vertical spin tunnels. Our engineers implemented the control systems for our low speed tunnel and as well as the LaRC NTF and 14x22 tunnels. We use proprietary software to simulate tunnel controls requirements and tunnel performance parameters. ViGYAN engineers have developed "virtual wind tunnel" techniques for visualizing instrumentation setups prior to test conduct.

Wind Tunnel Models

ViGYAN staff design and build most of the models which are tested in our low speed wind tunnel. In addition, the wind tunnel staff assembles, modifies, and installs models supplied from NASA and commercial customers. ViGYAN engineers at LaRC are involved in the conceptual design and model fabrication portions of test programs. They work with both the NASA and local contractor model shops in fabrication of models, and oversee test preparation and instrumentation of the test articles.

Wind Tunnel Instrumentation and Data Acquisition

ViGYAN staff are familiar with a wide range of wind tunnel instrumentation systems including strain gage balances, pressure and temperature sensors, ESP systems, pressure-sensitive paint, and several laser Doppler velocimetry techniques (PIV, DGV). We have developed and implemented various types of data acquisition and reduction systems in the ViGYAN Wind Tunnel as well as at LaRC and Ames.

Data Prediction and Analysis

ViGYAN researchers in the CFD, configuration development, and experimental aerodynamics areas can assist in prediction of test results, test planning, and data analysis of wind tunnel results. Reports on test results are prepared with analysis levels ranging from a straight data report to detailed analysis and recommendations for further study
